Major New Improvements at Camp Liahona
Cabins are Almost Complete!!

18 July 2009 The three new cabins are taking shape. They are about 3.5 by 5 metres, with a full width covered veranda across the front. Each one will provide bunk platforms for 8 to 10 people (8 bunks with 2 of them double width). An existing small cabin, previously called the First Aid Hut, is being remodeled to accomodate 6 bunks. This one has electric power (when the generator is running) so it will make a good leaders' headquarters.

10 August 2009 The bunks and ladders are all in, the roofs are covered and the cladding is nearly all on. The windows are on order. They were surely be complete before winter storms begin sneaking around.
30 September 2009 Cabin number 2 is complete. Isn't it pretty!
1 May 2009 A number of significant improvements have been made to Camp Liahona in an on-going effort to upgrade the facility. Our objective is to make camping comfortable and fun so that activities can have maximum effect. We also want to minimise the amount of time required of leaders in providing food and shelter so that they can concentrate on providing an environment where the spirit of the Lord is readily available to all. Here are some of the main improvements:
Major Kitchen and Dining Upgrades (Chair seating, refrigerators next to kitchen, hot water at sinks, electric sockets)
Camp Road Graded and Rolled
New Small Group Camping Area
Super-Quiet Electric Generator
New Rowing Boat
Achery Range and Equipment
Cleared and Mowed Hiking Trails with Meditation Benches
Kayaks and Rowing Boat Stored at the Lake
Major Kitchen and Dining Upgrades
The storage container visible in the background of this photo now houses the two refrigerators and the upright freezer so that these foods are only a few steps from the kitchen.
The dining area now has chair seating for over 100.
There are electrical sockets ready for small cooking appliances or video presentations.
All three sinks now have hot and cold water.

New Small Group Camping Area
Camp Liahona has a new, third fire ring. This one is small, has a picnic table next to it and is located only a few steps over a new land bridge across the dyke to Lake Liahona. This area is suitable for groups of up to 20 people.

New, Super-Quiet Generator
Camp Liahona has a new generator that is purpose built for use in places such as our camp where we are trying to minimise noise. The noise level is so low that you can have a normal conversation just a few feet away. The new generator will supply electricity to the kitchen and serving area, the toilets and showers, and the refrigerators.

Achery Range and Equipment
7 May 2009
Camp Liahona has a new archery range where shooters can try their skill at targets backed up by huge bales of straw to keep stray arrows from getting lost.
Pictured here is one of three archery kits now available.

Kayaks and Rowing Boat Stored at the Lake
Here you see the large storage container (that holds the tents, kayaks, rowing boat and most of the activities equipment) being moved to a new location just a few metres from Lake Liahona. The lake is just off the right of this photograph. This makes water and other activities much more convenient for all.
There is also a storage rack for the kayaks located right next to the dock so they can be handy at all times camp is in session.
