Rules and Guidelines for Camp Liahona

Rules and Guidelines for Camp Liahona

Why Rules

As a dedicated camp, it is necessary that all activities be in harmony with the purposes and standards of the Restored Gospel. Like the "rules of the road", camp rules assure an environment where silliness and soberness can both have their appropriate place. The rule prohibiting electronic devices is especially important. Being at Camp Liahona is as close to being at the temple as many people can experience. It is a dedicated site and a special spirit resides here. It can be a temple-like experience if the distractions of the world are eliminated. Please plan to leave all electronic devices (mobile phones, music players, games, etc.) behind, and if possible, plan on at least a 4 night camp. It takes 3 days for the drumming of the world to drift out of our minds and leave it sensitive to the whisperings of the Holy Ghost.

It's everybody's job to maintain camp safety, beauty, and cleanliness. By working together we can assure that LDS groups can enjoy this beautiful and peaceful oasis from the perplexities of the world at a price that is affordable.

Rules

Health and Safety

NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES of any type are allowed except that leaders may carry mobile phones. Cameras and GPS units are allowed.
ALL ACCIDENTS MUST BE REPORTED TO THE CAMP DIRECTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
No open flame (candles, camp stoves, etc.) in the cabins.
Each group should bring a first aid kit and have a certified nurse.
Firearms and fireworks are NOT to be used. BB and Pellet guns can only be used with written permission of a Camp Director.
Quiet hours in camp are between 10:30pm and 7:00am. Generators will be shut off during this period.
Adequate footwear is the responsibility of leaders or parents. Rabbits and moles can make walking dangerous.
Ensure toilets and showers are cleaned every day and on your departure.
No fires anywhere except in the three purpose build fire rings. The soil is peat and will take light and travel underground!
Only battery operated (no naked, pressure or hurricane torches) torches are allowed off the grass.
No pets of any type are allowed at Camp Liahona.
For group camps, a minimum of two leaders holding Life Saving Certificates will be at all water and cable slide activities.

Please leave the camp at least as tidy as you found it. All rubbish must be collected and disposed of properly.

FYI

Toilet paper and cleaning materials are provided by the Camp Director.
The standards that are outlined in “For the Strength of Youth” booklet need to be taught and practised.
Leaders should be familiar with the fire points and ensure the beaters and buckets are available in case of emergencies.
Axes and saws should be kept and used on your site rather than taken into the woods when foraging for timber.
Axes and saws are not provided.
You must be entirely self-catering.
Due to the requirements of the Food Safety Act 1990, we do not provide crockery and cutlery. Bring your own plates, etc.
Feltwell has two small general stores and Brandon has a large one along with a butcher, greengrocer etc.
Two supermarkets are situated at Downham Market. Tesco (08456 779 208) will deliver to the Directors home near camp.
You are strongly advised to protect your food store from the ravages of foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.
Large groups should bring sufficient leaders and some should have attended the one day training course.
Ensure your group is litter conscious.
There is no provision for typical caravan parking. Ask the Camp Director in advance if you would like to bring one.
All piped water at the Camp is safe for drinking.
Each group should perform 2 hours of service for the Camp, farm or local community. Ask a Camp Director what to do.
Handcarts are not designed to withstand abuse or heavy loading. Do not drop the handle to the ground.

Guidelines for Activities Off the Site

Enjoy the countryside and respect its life and work.
Guard against all risk of fire. This country is ancient fen.
Fasten all gates.
Keep to public paths across farmlands - these are working farms and owners are conscious of damage.
Use gates and stiles to cross fences, hedges and walls.
Leave livestock, crops and machinery alone.
Leave no litter, take it all with you.
Protect wildlife, plants, trees and water.
Take special care on country roads and tracks - some are for tractors only and unsuitable for road vehicles.
Make no unnecessary noise.
